Upper Valley Haven.png

The Upper Valley Haven is a non-profit, private organization that serves people in the Upper Valley region of Vermont and New Hampshire struggling with poverty by providing food, shelter, education, service coordination, and other support.

Since 1980 the Upper Valley Haven has provided temporary shelter and educational programming for homeless families and adults as well as food to anyone in need.

The Haven offers support and fosters independence through four domains of service: Food, Shelter, Education and Problem Solving. The Haven is open 365 days per year and never charges for any of its services and serves over 14,500 people per year.

Event Information

The Norwich Turkey Trot is an informal 2 mile/4.4 mile walk or run around Norwich, VT at 9 am on Thanksgiving morning that also collects donations for the Upper Valley Haven. We are committed to keeping the trot a low-key, fun local event that brings our community together, gets the blood flowing, and starts the day off right – with the spirit of thanks and giving….and great hats! In 2020 we were a virtual trot due to COVID-19.

History

This community event was established in 2008 when Molly and a few childhood friends were sharing a drink at the Norwich Inn one Thanksgiving eve, lamenting the fact there was no trot in town. They agreed to meet the next morning, trot around town, and bring money and other donations to pool and drop off at the Haven. The trot was born! We have continued to organize the trot each year and have watched in amazement as the trot has organically grown from the rag tag first year to a favorite community event, and kick-off to the 19 Days of Norwich, that attracts over 600 trotters and has raised tens of thousands of dollars and countless pounds of food and clothing donations for the Haven.

We are blessed to have all donations generously matched by The Jack and Dorothy Byrne Foundation, literally doubling our impact.
